Overclocking with my cpu

Ok guys first off im ill knowledge when it comes to overclocking i dont know hardly anything about it except what it does. And i think you can overclock as long as you can keep a good cpu temp? not sure so any help is appreciated.

Now that PSU (at least i think overclocking has a big part around your psu and how much watts it can pull) is 700 watts and ive heard the phenom II x2 550 is great for overclocking and known to oc to 3.4 with a 500w psu easy. So what do you think are my oc'ing capability's with this?
 
You should be good for overclocking! Your overclock actually depends more on your mobo (for voltage control) and your CPU. As long as the CPU and mobo are getting the right amount of power it doesn't really matter what PSU you have, but a higher quality one will help.

It is a fact that higher quality processors (on the wafer - see some vids on making CPU's) are made into high end CPU's... the CPU's that can't achieve a higher clock speed in the factory are used as lower end CPU's.
 
If you are only using the stock heatsink, only stick with what stock voltage will do which is probably ~3.4ghz. Do not raise voltage until you get an aftermarket heat sink and fan.

Power supply only has a little to do with it. Obviously you have to have enough wattage, because when you overclock you are using a lot more. For example, just a guess but my 550 unlocked to a quad and at 3.8ghz probably uses 160-180w. Anyway, the other reason about having a good power supply is Vdroop. The voltage on the core under load with a cheap power supply will drop. So a better PSU will hold the voltage better.
