overclocking???

i have just added coolbits and when i went into the clock frequency settings it says my core clock frequency was 300 and my memory clock frequency is 1000

is this normal for a geforce 6600gt with gddr3 memory?

i fort the settings were

clock 500
memory 1000

anyways i changed the settings from standard 2d to performance 3d and now the fequencies have changed to

clock 500
memory 1000

is it ok to run games like this or is there a chance of ruining my card?
cheers for any help

Well

2D settings for the core should be 300 but 500 is perfectly fine because that's the frequency the card is designed to run at perfectly fine. The card switches to 500 when doing some 3D work. Therefore setting the 500 for 2D means that the card will needlessly be running at a higher frequency and heat up more. However, there is no problem with that.

ooo so the card switches automatically from 2d to 3d if i start playin on a game such as counter strike? or do i need to change it manually before i play?

my score on 3dmark 05 is only around the 2000 mark looking at other scores from ppl with a similar setup to me this is pretty low. they are gettin around 3500

i have a 2500+AMD athlon XP
asus a7n8x-e deluxe mobo and 1028 mb memory pc2100

Good

The score could be as you mentioned because of the processor and the memory you have. I bet that if you had better ones, the score would be much higher. However, to clear things up once and for all, the card automatically switches between 300 and 500 automatically. 300 when in 2D rendering and 500 when in 3D rendering.
