Overclocking?

I'm looking at buying RAM for a computer that I'm currently building and wondering. Is it worth it to get the overclocking DDR rather than just the normal DDR RAM? Price really isnt an issue on this so it would just be helpful for like the pros and cons of each I guess. Just looking for some opinions...

Well, with O/Cing, its able to run at much higher speeds. When your just doing normal tasks, both DDR & O/Cing DDR will be the same (Providing that they are same memory timings etc)

But, when it comes to o/c if you try to O/C your 300MHz memory, then you arnt gona get past 300Mhz without severe unstabilty.

However, say your o/cing ram is rated to 500Mhz, then you can o/c untill your ram reaches 500Mhz.

(I think :D, correct me if im wrong)

Yeah, I'll give some examples. Say you have an amd 64 3000+ (400mhz memory w/ cpu multiplier of X10, yeilding 2.0ghz clock speed) If you want to overclock it, then you raise the ram's speed. So if you want to get it to 2.2ghz, you'll need to get your ram to 420mhz. If you get PC3200 ram, then you'll be ocing it by 20mhz. but if you get like PC3500 ram, then you won't be overclocking the ram. However, if you get PC3500 ram and you don't OC, then ram will downclock itself to PC3200 speed. IF you get PC3200 ram and overclock, then you'll need good non-generic ram to reach 420mhz.

I hope that helps, i might have gotten some of the speeds wrong, sorry, watching patriots
