Ok, this is a very noobie question, but don't laugh I know quite a bit about the software side of pc's but not the herdware.

So, here it is, what is overclocking?

lol overclocking is the speeding up of computer hardware. it stresses it more, and it may become unstable. there are multiple ways to overclock ram, but the most effective way to overclock is by overclocking the cpu frequency. you've heard of megahertz (mhz) and gighertz (ghz) well thats millions of cycles and billions of cycles per second. the more cycles, the more work the cpu can perform, ultimately increasing performance.
it can be dangerous, but generally overvolting to make an item more stable at a higher clock (mhz or ghz) is more dangerous than just raising the clockspeed.
