overheating CPU/GPU

Hey

I've been having some problems with my desktop, heating issues.
This is how my heating is idle, and when i just started my computer (after a 10hour break)

Specs:
Intel core2quad CPU Q9550 @ 2,83GHz (standard intel cpu cooler)
Nvidia Geforce 260GTX (fan speed set to 100%, and have turned everything else down to a minimal, EVGA precision screenshot can be provided)
Windows XP 32-bit

Does anyone out there know what the problem might be?

I guess the obvious answer is to make sure the heat sink is seated correctly on the cpu.

Did you put this computer together?
 
No i didnt, i bought it online.
i did however take the heatsink off to redo the thermal paste. but all the pins are almost down as far as i can push them, without damaging the motherboard. (it bended quite a lot when i pushed them back in.)
 
Have you checked the processor heatsink and the video card to see if there is gunk and or dust clogging them up?

Edit: How much thermal paste did you use when you put the heatsink back on?

that i have no idea about, but i think max temp for GTX260 is 83C or something like that. and the 65 it comes up at when load is too close i think. and the max for the cpu is like 100C

and i used quite a lot of paste

i know there arent some dust in the CPU's heatsink. but im not sure in the gpu. i got a closed GTX260, and i cant look inside.

You likely used too much thermal paste. Using too much thermal paste will cause higher temperatures with your processor. With thermal paste a little goes a long way.

I would remove the heatsink, clean all the thermal paste off and reapply it.

Place the amount of paste equal to a grain of rice on the center of the processor and when you place the heatsink on it will spread it out adequately.

I nothing else works, buy a bloody great Liquid cooling system and STICK IT IN THERE!:D sorry, couldn't resist that :P
If it persists, contact the manufacturer, they should tell you why it's so hot/ "it's mean to run hot"

it's plain to see that the CPU is at stock levels, you should sue them on grounds of "emotional trauma" or something like that :P
