Hey, well my buddies computer keeps restarting itself. We noticed its pretty much random but it seems like when hes listening to music or playing a game?

Is it overheating? What's overheating?

But if it was overheating when we would go to turn it BACK on it wouldnt right? It goes back on with no problem but then it will randomly restart 5mins-6hours later.

What could be the problem?
Thanks guys =D

hhmm i think its over heating but i have no idea what is over heating srry if i didnt help

Most likely CPU to be honest as it will have a threshold temperature that its designed to shut down on if it reaches.

You can do some fairly simple things to reduce temp, firstly open her up and give it a good dusting. Now that doesn't mean getting in there with a duster and going hell for leather with it. Get a can of compressed air and blow it around in there to free up some of the more stubborn stuff, you can then use a hand vac or the nozzle of a normal vac to suck up the loose dust.

Check the cabling too, try not to have things too cluttered as you need a decent space for air to move around inside the case so it can blow the air through and over components. Use cable ties to group them together and try to make it look as tidy as possible.

Also try to ensure the base unit is not stuffed away as it could use some space around it to intake and exhaust air.

If it's still persisting to turn off then look at investing in more fans to move air better, potentially you might want to try and new heatsink and fan which will reduce the temp quite a bit.

There are programs out there that can show the temperature of parts of system but I find that many of them aren't too reliable

it may be. I would let it cool way down like don't use it for a while then open the case and boot it up and watch all the fans because overheating can be caused be a fan that wont spin or a fan that stops spinning after a while if this does not work then I have no clue

Download a programme called speed fan. That will allow you to monitor temperatures.

Like someone else said, improve airflow. It may be a good idea to drill a hole in the top of your case and install a extracter fan there, that should shift some hot air.
