overheating...warming up...

Okay guys you all were great when I built my rig over the summer, so I am back and I have question.

What would cause my Vid card to get to 65 degrees C ??? Its not max load at all.... The desktop is setting in a CPU stand on my desk... buts its the only one that gets hot... I don't wanna burn it up... its the deforce 8600GTS and I love it. I have one 80mm fan in the back, one on the top of case and one in the front. The Vid card has its own fan... still hot.... Need help. thanks....

Merry Christmas a1eyedbandit! :)

That's a normal temperature for GFX's. I'd only get worried if it gets 85C+ during a game/load. Is that a passively cooled GFX or a fan cooled GFX?

fan cooled I believe it has one on it... It never started this til I plugged in the extra power cord to it... was tired of the error message..

should I consider doing anything??? My CORE temp on my CPU gets to 50C with mild load.... Itunes uploads....vid card is at 65C now...Also temp (LM75) runs at 65C now

65C isn't really bad for a video card. if it gets too much higher than that on load then there might be problems, but people have been known to runn the 8xxx series cards at 80C+ stable.

what kind of fans would be best if I want to cool this thing down?? Should I take it out of the desk CPU shelf its in???

If it's a El Cheapo 600W, and it's struggling with a big load... that could create heat... thus heating up other components...

Can it cause major probs?? Or can I just let it go?? Right now I don't game... I do watch movies and load stuff on I tunes... and the case IS crammed in my desk... Cores stay at 45 ide and 51 at load ( Duo cores proessors)

cooling

i'm with you, i'd like to get my processors temp down. can anyone give me a good brand cooling system. much thanks

I WILL REPEAT IN ALL CAPS SO AS TO AVOID CONFUSION: 65c IS NOT OUT OF THE ORDINARY FOR A VIDEO CARD

:D Ok ok :) I'm just saying that most of my GFX's have lower temperatures. I'm not saying there's definitely something wrong with his GFX cooler or anything...

Introduction
Featuring the latest GeForce® 8600 GTS with 256MB GDDR3 memory and DirectX® 10 and Shader Model 4.0 support, EVGA's 256-P2-N761-AR delivers amazingly realistic gaming effects and full support for Microsoft® Windows Vista. Differing from past GPU generations, this talented card features a dedicated on-chip video processor for superb picture quality and ultra smooth video playback. Humming a long at a brisk 675 MHZ with a 2GHz memory clock, you’ve got more than enough juice to slice through the stiffest competition.

It also features NVIDIA's latest developments, including GigaThread™ Technology, which, through a massively multi-threaded architecture creates thousands of independent, simultaneous threads, providing extreme processing efficiency for advanced, next generation shader programs.

Additionally, This amazing unit supports Quantum Effects™ Technology, enabling a new level of physics effects to be simulated and rendered on the GPU as well as support for NVIDIA's Lumenex™ engine, which introduces 16x Anti-aliasing and 128-bit floating point High-Dynamic-Range (HDR) rendering for the most realistic lighting effects.
Highlights
NVIDIA Unified Architecture with GigaThread Technology
The Fully-unified shader core dynamically allocates processing power to geometry, vertex, physics and pixel shading operations, delivering incredibly true-to-life 3D graphics. In addition, the massively multi-threaded architecture supports thousands of independent, simultaneous threads, providing extreme processing efficiency in advanced, next generation shader programs.

Full Microsoft DirectX 10 Support
The world's first DirectX 10 GPU with full Shader Model 4.0 support delivers unparalleled levels of graphics realism and film-quality effects.

NVIDIA Lumenex Engine
The NVIDIA Lumenex Engine supports 128-bit and 64-bit floating point HDR with up to 16x anti-aliasing, delivering vividly realistic lighting effects while obliterating "jaggies".

NVIDIA Quantum Effects Technology
NVIDIA Quantum Effects Technology enables advanced shader processors architected for physics computation and a new level of physics effects to be simulated and rendered on the GPU - all the while freeing the CPU to run the game engine and AI.

HDCP Capable
With integrated High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) support, this card allows playback of HD DVDs, Blu-ray Discs and other protected content at full HD resolutions.

NVIDIA SLI Technology
Delivers up to 2x the performance of a single GPU configuration for unmatchable gaming experiences. The must-have feature for PCI Express graphics, NVIDIA SLI technology allows two graphics cards to run in parallel and dramatically scales performance on today's hottest games.

its still at 65C no load... not WORRIED butI wanna load it and I haven't for fear of killing my baby ! :)

8600GTS...............................350W .........................18A

I'd say you're cuttin close... But you SHOULD pass...

Hmm... 65C should be fine... but if the card passes 75-80C under load... I'd get worried.

for your video card you can get a slot cooler to put right above/below it to give it some more air. also you can improve the airflow in your case by moving wires and adding extra fans etc
