Overheating?

My normal temperature in my computer (according to ATI Catalyst Control) is about 48 Celsius at 5% activity, and it can go up to 58 Celsius from what I've seen (might even go higher when I'm playing games).
I don't know much about computers but I think this is very high.
Can you help me cool it down?
Here are my specs;
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+ 2.40 GHz
1.50 GB of RAM (Working on getting 2 GB :P)
ATI Radeon 3870 512mb
Antec 550 watts PSU
I don't know the exact name of my motherboard (It is very unclear by looking at the box lol) K8 HT2000 XPRESS 200P, RX480-A.

Please help :D

Did you build this system yourself? That is a bit warm, but nothing to worry about. Only thing you could really do is get a better heat sink and better thermal paste.

Yeah I built it myself :)
And thanks a lot (for advice and quick reply!), I'll look into the thermal paste.
 
Oh and before I forget are the temp readings on ATI Catalyst Control accurate?
And does it read the temps of my CPU?

Catalyst is for your graphics card, it should read your gpu temps accurate. If you want accurate CPU temps get "Core Temp"
 
as long as it stays under 80 degrees celcius, your fine(assuming this is the graphics card) incase you hadn't noticed, graphics cards run much warmer than a processor will
 
69c!! Thats to hot for a stock clocked CPU. Man Iv OC'd my c2 and it idles at 38c-40c. Plus that 69c when you exit is not it under a load, it cools down big time in the first few seconds. I recommend getting a new cooler and some good thermal paste. Spend 50 bux or so and your good to go.

Okay, I am going to put on the thermal paste today and I'm going to be a getting a new heatsink, I'll check out if I can find one that fits my socket in a store (Hopefully they have the Silent Knight 2 that one looks nice :D).
 
I applied thermal paste and it made the temperature drop by atleast 10 Celsius!
I'm going to try playing Oblivion and see what happens :D

Zalman is known for their cooling products. I don't know off hand, mines 100% copper and that's supposed to be the best you can get(money wise). Glad to hear it dropped man. So your using the stock cooler right now? Man, you should get another 10c(minimum, maybe 20c)drop.
 
Yeah I'm using my stock fan. When my computer is idle one core is around 40 Celsius the other is around 37 Celsius. And when I came out of Oblivion one core is around 60 Celsius the other is around 47 Celsius.
And now when I'm just on the internet (around 3% or 5% activity) one core is 46 Celsius and one is 39 Celsius.
 
before buying nes HS take one off you got now clean off thermal paste reapply new and make sure its seated in tightly. im sure since ur using amd youll have the lever clip. be sure its on correctly.

if still getting high temps, look at the thermaltake spinq. i max at 35c under torture tests and idle at 17c on cool nights

also make sure your HS has help form case fans. more air flow will cause better cooling.
