Overwriting windows xp home

Hi all,

I currently have windows xp home edition installed on my laptop. I have lots of important files in some folder on my hard disk. But i want to put windows xp professional edition on my hard disk. My problem is that I dont have the xp pro upgrade cd; i only have the full version of xp professional. I'm wondering, if I was to set up windows xp professional on the same partition as xp home, will it just overwrite xp home edition and will it leave my important files in my "documents and settings" folder alone, or will it just totally remove everything from my hard disk?

Thanks all in advance for your replies.

erm.... the full version has the option to perform just an upgrade, that should be fine. Its the upgarde version that doesnt have the means to perform a full install. Do an upgrade and you documents should stay in their places.

Upgrading usually cost more HD usage. I think when you finish upgrading; you can uninstall the windows setup files that were copied due to upgrade.
Upgrading is not recommended, but if you willing to sacrifice HD space and computer performance, then I guess that is the option for you...

If I were you, I would backup all the data I have and then perform the clean installation of windows XP Pro... But that just me.. You do whatever suits you....:D
