hi,

out of interest, is it illegal 2 download stuff from P2P (e.g kazaar, shearza etc) in the UK? don't get me wrong, i don't use those stuff. i just buy cds from music stores so that i can show respect to the bands i like (i kno, qutie sad) ;)

it is illegal to download copyrighted material. if you put a song up that i made up on p2p then you can download all you want.

i believe its the same almost everywhere in the world, you cant (not suppose to) download copy protected songs, movies, ect. But you can share photos since thats not illegal (unless its child pornography)

using a p2p program itself isnt illegal, its what you download on it.

u can have kazza ect on your comp, if the police raid and nick ure comp they cant so anythin if u didnt download and thing copywrited

k....
so i gather that it's actaully illegal but for those poeple who actaully use P2P and download copyright stuff, how do they get caught??? r the police or whoever constantly spyin on our comps??? (yes, i'm a bit naive, LOL) :D

They share "songs", and when you download, they get ur IP, track ya down and arrest/sue ya. If you use a prog such as DC, you go into a hub, which they have set up, DL and UL in there, and they have a log. There's countless ways..bittorent, p2p...

more than likely people turn you in.

but yes there are orginizations that probe those kinds of environments and track people down. i think there's all kinds of procedures to doing it, they dont jsut wake up and decide to find someone most of the time. but in the unfortunate event you are being watched, and you download something copyrighted, you are in some deep stuff.

am i being spied on now?- i'm not usin any P2Ps atm and i dont' use them. i'm just surfin the net and goin on computer forums to gain a beta knowledge of IT stuff....

Well, everything on the internet is logged and recorded somewhere...thats been around since...well the birth of the internet i would imagine. People with the right permissions can access pretty much anything on the internet.

Did you know e-mail providers like Google, Hotmail, etc. log and read your e-mails? Read there "Terms of Use" policies (if you cna stand the wording) it's all in there. They filter and search for words that can be interpreted as dangers or what have you, then that gives them the right to track and read your e-mail. If you're doing something illegal, they can turn you in.

MANY things online can get you busted...but it's jsut so common and accepted no one really thinks about it.

They go after the people who are sharing stuff with in the networks. Like they are logged into kazaa and find the user names of people sharing and supena kazaa and the individual's ISP to get their information

well i hav all of those things: nortons antivirus and firewall, Adaware SE, A2 anti trojan thing and MS antispyware.

so all these stuff stops people 'spyin' on my comp?

they aren't spying on your computer they are watching what your computer requests from download servers and thats how they get you.. to download it you have to request it and when you request it they can hear you... some times hahaha

btw max penalty for copywrite infringment is 5 years in jail... eeeps!

wot- thats ridiculous! i tihnk....

not really.

if you created some music or something similiar and copyrighted it, payed people money to protect it, and then someone up and stole it and took credit for it...wouldn't you be pissed?

Or if selling your copyrighted material was your only source of income, and then someone was giving it away for free by the truck loads...you would be losing money.

those will prevent many basic "attacks" and viewing of your machine. Some will even protect you from the harder to prevent "attacks." But there really isn't anything that will keep you 100% for sure absolutely safe on the internet. Anything you know about is already old...it's the stuff that we don't know about that we can't prevent, and believe me its out there everyday. That's why everthing constantly has to be updated.

Want to be 100% protected? Don't use the internet :)
