P4 3.2 Prescott

Hi, I have a P4 3.2 Prescott with the standard Intel cooler and it seems the stock fan has become quiete noisey and seems to sound like it speeds up a little then goes a little quieter as if its possible struggling to keep the CPU cool. Now i have had the system nearly 2 years and have replaced the thermal paste once. Is it likely that the HSF have become towards their end of theuir life as I was considering getting the zalman cooler if it was the case...Just need to know, The temp of the cpu is usually around 60 degrees.

Thanks

60 degrees.
 celsius? Thats very high if it is... what is the load temp?

it maybe, although you could try giving is a good clean.
But an after market cooler can always be a a good cheap buy/

prescott cpus are known for running hot so replacing the cpu heatsink is a good idea the fan on it at the moment proberbly speeds up when the cpu is doing something

The temp I checked after playing CS for about 40 minutes, I close it down, restarted machine and checked the Temp in the BIOS. I know prescotts do run hot but wasnt sure what it rouhgly should be.

those heat issues were on the 478, not so much on the 775 that tomb08uk is running.

well thats probably a little closer to the load temp, which while high is not heart attack high. Had that been you idle temp i would have had more concerns (>70 is a real issue and potential damage area)

So whats the best cooler for the CPU then.. As I like the zalman but my only concern is that the physical size might be difficult to mount on to my board without hitting any capacitors etc.
