My System has a p4 3.4 cpu and when I go to Device manager, I am told that there are 2 of them. Why is it so? Or is it that System Information tells me the cpu has 1 core but 2 logical processors so is reported as 2 cpu's?

Hyper threading technology from Intel. It's like having a core and a half, but shows up as two.

EDIT:

Hyper Threading is a technology from Intel that allows a single core to achieve about 30% increase in performance compared to a non Hyper Threading CPU (per core).
