My friend went to buy a computer today and he asked about p4 3.4 Ghz and the guy told him it is a shit processor becuase it over heats. is this true. why would intel put it out if it was crap??

Lol

Well it's not crap at all. It simply heats up a bit. He's probably talking about a Prescott.

The 3.4ghz is not a bad processor. If I remember correctly the heating problems was mainly on the skt 478 prescott 3.4ghz. If you get a skt 775 prescott 3.4ghz you should not have much problems with heating compare to anything else highend.

Ok 3.4GHz "WHAT"? Now if you're looking at a Northwood 3.4 or a Pentium4 550 then its generally ok. Now if you're getting a Prescott 3.4GHz (different from the Pentium4 550) then yer in for some serious heat issues (assuming there was a S478 Prescott at 3.4Ghz)

I think AMD's give off less heat, but the P4 3.4Ghz should be fine- especially if its not getting overclocked. My P4 3.2Ghz is running real nice at 3.8Ghz and reasonably low heat too. I did have the stock cooler but got the Gigabyte rocket 3d last week-sweet.

Zeus,
Im runnin:
3.20 Ghz P4 CPU @3.81Ghz
1Gb Corsair DDR2 @ PC5200
ATI X800XT GPU- overclocked
250GB Western Digital HDD
ASUS P5AD2-LGA775 MoBo

Some AMDs give off less heat, some give craploads more. As for 3.4GHz being "fine" it depends on the actual product in mind :). As for your system you dont have a Pentium4 3.20GHz but rather a Pentium4 530 which doesnt have the same heat issues.
