P4 3Ghz or AMD3000+ ?

No I'm talking about if you will have to have the 64 bit windows to play 64 bit games when they come out.
oh sorry i wasn't clear. Yes you will.
But dont panic, games will probably be released in both formats for a while yet.

it will take a long time for all programs and games to move completly to 64-bit, seeing that most processors are 32-bit, and they are still being sold.

So if 64-bit doesn't make a processor run better, than why is 64-bit useful? What's the advantage of going to 64-bits?

with a 32bit OS, nothing. Athlon 64s perform better than pentiums in some applications because of their architecture design not register size. 64bit systems open up the doorway for more RAM

ya, windows XP Pro x64 can hold 250GB of ram or something like that, regular windows xp pro can hold 4gb. (Not that a motherboard can support 250GB of ram) lol

actually a 64bit processor can handle something like 200 million gigabytes of ram. you were right bout the 32 only 4 GB.

but why are amd processors said to be better than intel at gaming, is it better at processing video or what makes it better, and would it be better at like video conversions and other things that do similar things to games?

it mainly due to the integrated memory controller, which means that the cpu has more direct access to the ram without having to go through the northbridge. This gives amd more power when i comes to tasks that need memory bandwidthm such as games

The fact that 32-bit systems only have 32-bits of data to work with means that they can only address up to 4 GB of RAM. A 64-bit system on the other hand could theoretically address up to 16 exabytes of RAM (That’s over 16,000,000 GB of RAM).

However xp 64bit edition can only address up to 16 GB of RAM and 16 TB of virtual memory

also, since it is a 64 bit processor it can multi-task much better
funny... because being a 64bit CPU means jack all for multitasking.
really?? i read somewhere that that is true...
well dont u have one? :)

if your playing farcry 64 bit vs farcry 32 bit, the AMD would most likely run better.
a difference yes but negligible

then how come people say AMD 64's are better for gaeming even though all games now are only 32 bit, since you say it doesnt make a difference since no appolications run in 64 bit?
1. people say a lot of things
2. not all games are 32bit

i think because AMD 64 has onboard memory controller...correct me if im wrong.+
well non Athlon64 chips have ondie memory controllers too but you are correct

so, when do you think the 64 bit games will start coming out, i already know that the 64 bit windows is out... also, will you need Windows XP x64 to get those 64 bit games to work?
yes

well most of the CPU lineup is now 64bit

so if 64-bit doesn't make a processor run better, than why is 64-bit useful? what's the advantage of going to 64-bits?
CPU 101.
