im building a computer with an e8400 core 2 duo and was wondering whether there was actually any difference between these two motherboards, what is p35/p45 and what difference will it make to me?

im gonna be using the computer mainly for music production using cubase so i dont need amazing graphics or anything, im just getting an asus en8500gt craphics card.

will the p5q make any difference over the p5k

OPINIONTIME below! please, Ta.

any real difference? no, not really. get the P45 anyways though, even if its just because its newer and has a few new technologies that don't really matter.

i'd like to mention something if it's not too late.

i have the p5k...and it's been giving me lots of troubles lately, after 15 month from date of purchase. i really do respect asus for their products but the p5k has not been good to me. i recently learned from a sales associate at microcenter i've gotten close to that a lot of people ended up returning that particular product to the store for many different reasons

although they have updates and patches, it didn't help me with my issues. i'd recommend the other one

It seems counterintuitive, I suppose, but there is a lot to be said for choosing last year's technology. While the P45 is a newer chipset, it won't do anything important for you that the P35 won't do. Last year's technology is tried and true and also costs less.

My last E8400 build was just last thursday. I used the P5QL-Pro which has the P43 chipset but no on-board video. It is an affordable ATX format board with very current if not the latest technolgy. It features plenty of I/O. If you don't need on-board video, this board is a bargain for what it is. The resulting computer turned out to be excellent in every sense.
