P8600 compatibility

i have a sony vaio notebook that has a t6400 2.0ghz cpu and i want to upgrade to the p8600 2.4ghz cpu. is the p8600 compatible with my t6400 mobo?

laptops for the most part are not upgradeable. i do not suggest putting a processor from a different generation into your laptop.

from what i hear so far, as long as the two cpu have the same socket type, then u should be able to switch them

that's not entirely true. the 8600 runs at 1066mhz fsb while the 6400 only runs at 800mhz fsb.

but i want to upgrade my t5550 to t8300 so i was reading about t8300, a lot of people who had t5450 which has 667mhz upgraded to t8300 which has 800mhz and they said it worked great, so i think you can switch cpu with different bus speed, right?
i'm not a computer expert so dont quote me on this

it depends on the max bus speed of the motherboard!

you need to check the spec of the motherboard for max fsb...
