Packard Bell advice

Hi folks. I am new to the forum and was hoping i could get your advise/opinions. I have just bought the Packard Bell ipower 7650 as a gaming PC. The main reason i bought it was because it has dual NVidea 7600GT cards. I picked it up for just over £500.

Probably my own fault but all the reviews i am reading after i have bought it appear to give it a hard time, other than the graphics cards. It will be used for gaming and downloading and after paying what i did i am more than happy to upgrade components in the future.

Has anyone had one of these or does anyone know how good or bad they really are.

2 video cards (7600's) will not beat an 7900. Just because it's double does not mean it adds up it memory, CPU speed, or anything like that.

I would suggest you custom build it yourself.

I don't know how much $500 is in USD... but the GFX seems poor. O/s seems an bit outdated too.
 
First of all I had never heard of Packard Bell, (thought you said paco bell at first...)
To my understanding, £500 would be about 1,019 USD. I'll try building it on newegg.com to see how low a computer like that could be.

Thanks. I usually just x2 it an thats my guesstimate :D ... If it was $1019 for that PC it was an HUGE ripoff... You could have gotten an Quad Q6600, 2/4GB RAM, and an 8800...

Packard Bell was an "older" computer manufacturer. They were so-so back then, but they seemed to have decreased over the years.
 
I'd say the OS is fine, since vista sucks. As for the graphics it is a bit dated. And with either the 7600 or a 7900 card you will not be able to take any advantage of DX10.

If you could upgrade to the 7900 or even dual 7900's then you would have a good system. But I see no specs for your power supply, I don't know if it can handle dual 7900 cards.

Also your CPU is a AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ on a 939 socket mother board and not a AM2 chip. You could upgrade to an AMD Opteron 185 Denmark 2.6GHz Socket 939 Dual Core cpu, and that would be about the fastest cpu you can install.

I would recommend taking that system back to the store and build your own, or get a better system. It is OLD tech and not worth the money you spent.

Never relate the newegg price and expect it could be buy in UK. The hardware cost is at least 20-30% over in US.:eek: with £500, you will expect to build a config with $700-800 at newegg.

How long did u own it? Is it OK with 28 days return and get better one?
