Hi i have today installed windows 7 onto my laptop.
The problem is i want to put xp back on it as it is running so slow...
i have just insalled extra ram to 1gig but still is not as quick as xp...
On insalation of xp halfway though it asks for windows S/p/3 for some reason.
I just need to know how to install s/p/3 after i have formatted win/7..
p/s i will hold on the format until i get some help.....PLZ....

Is this a retail copy of Windows XP Professional if it is i don't see how you would be receiving this error. Also what service pack of XP Pro is it (SP1 Sp2 or SP3). And another thing are you installing xp properly through boot from cd and following the onscreen prompts.

I ran a copy of xp in case i lost the original....i installed on both my desktop cpus ok using the product key on the case.....p/s i did LOSE the original...disk...i am just wondering could i put sp3 on a smart drive....p/s it is XP HOME

Whatever service pack it is it should install fine and should not ask you to update to a later service pack unless their is a problem with the Cd. if you haven't formatted the HDD this could be the problem as the HDD is detecting SP3 and the disk you have may only be SP2
