Page filing

I turned my computer on and it came up with a message saying that i had no page filing or that it was very low. should i be worried about this?

its never said this before and ive never touched the page filinf1 what could have caused this?

Thanks :)

Right-click on My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Settings(under Performance) > Advanced > Change(under Virtual Memory)

Now what's your paging file set to. I assume that's what "page filing" means. Some people say it should be about 1.5 times however much RAM you have. It's also best to set a custom size and have the initial and max sizes the same. Or if you have 2GB of RAM(or more) you could probably disable it and be just fine.

well its on my other computer which im not scurrently on so it would have been on a defualt. i have 1gb of ram and this problem just recently happened.

i'll have the numbers soon. thanks :)

1533 intial size

3072 maximum size

and ive changed it to 2500 is this a good idea? also do i need PF on all of my Hdd's?

Thanks

That's fine for a paging file, all it's doing is using your hard disk space as virtual memory, so if you have a lot of hard disk space it isn't really a worry to buff your paging file up a bit

well saying that i turned my computer on today and the same thing happened! i changed it to 2500 and it still states that is it 2500 but is saying that there is no or little page filing. im not impressed and its starting to get on my nerves?

:)

Maybe you should set the paging file to something llike 5000 min and 6000 max and restart, then see if you still get the error

yeah i will do! the mroe the merrier! is there a limit that i should realisticlally set it at?

see i dont understand why its being like this? all of sudden this :(

anyways i'll try it and see what happens! hopefully it will help! thanks :)

I don't think you should require a paging file so high normally, so its possible that you may have a DOS (Denial of Service) virus or something which is using up a great deal of your RAM, but you probably would have noticed the CPU usage if there was. With regards to the paging file, the way it works is that it uses ROM as RAM, so technically you should be able to set it as high as you want, but regardless Windows only lets you use around 4-6gb max, I think
