Pagefile not going away.

My roommate has an SSD and it's filling up, so I was finding space for him. I had him run windirstat and his pagefile is still there, even though it's moved to his HDD. Can I just delete that pagefile.sys?

Are you sure you disabled the page file on the SSD? It's possible to have more than one, and even though you enabled it on the main HDD you didn't disable the one on the SSD.

I included a screenshot of it. Pagefile is definitely disabled on the C: drive.

I believe I can delete it in windows, just wasn't sure if it was safe or not. I'll try, and if not, I'll do it in ubuntu.

Yeah if it's disabled you should be fine deleting it.

No, you still can. You just might have issues coming out of sleep. Hibernation is a separate file on the HDD.

When you disable the page file on C drive, Windows does not delete the file. The File may not be in use, but will stay there until you delete it manually.

PAGE FILE ENABLED - you can delete the file "pagefile.sys" at any time,but it will be recreated on the next reboot.

PAGE FILE DISABLED - you can delete the file "pagefile.sys" at any time and it will not be recreated on the next reboot.


The file which contains hibernation data is called "hiberfil.sys".You can delete that one too if you are 100% that you will not use hibernate mode.
