Paint shop Syntax error

Can anyone please tell me why jpeg files will not open in Paint Shop Pro and what the following message is and how to fix it.

y yaIIII
Syntax error: invalid syntax
.......Command execution fail
Command name:RunScript

I think this happened after installing HP software because they wanted to open in HP Photosmart. and I changed the association back to Paint shop


This happens when I open jpeg from my email or from windows,
 
Actually this has nothing to do with your HP software. You see, Paint Shop was written in Microsoft's C#.Net language which runs off of the .net framework. Your error message came about because they miscoded something somewhere deep in the confines of Paint Shop :) I could figure it out if I had the source code but hey, I'm to lazy. Simply put, .Net has a hard time handling associations for software created by the .Net programmer. Your best bet is to open your picture files from Paint Shop rather than just clicking on the picture.
 
I should have mentioned that it used to work OK. and yes I can open files from within Paint Shop, but I cannot open email attachment from Paint Shop.
Should I try to re-install Paint Shop?
 
no that wouldn't do any good. basically what i'm trying to say is simply open all of your files through paint shop... in my experience, using .net software and applying it as default for a certain file type is really messy. just my opinion.
