so my white cd burner got painted on the front to black, and yes on purpose. i didn't want it standing out in my black case next to my black drives. now that it's painted, a hole in the cd drive got some paint in it, on the circuit board...very littly, like overspray, but i'm just wondering if anyone thinks that's bad?
 
no, i dont think it will matter, unless you used lead based paint, which in that case you have worse problems. as far as i know paint is non conductive, and nothing on a cd drive gets hot enough to start a fire/melt the paint
 
it's actually engine enamel paint, so it holds like 500 degrees. i think even my video card will stay under that :P

i only used it because it was the only black paint i had lying around!

yeah, the cd drive definitely died, haha. i started burning a cd and in the middle of the burn the green light went solid red, my winamp started skipping like no other and the whole computer froze. had to unplug the damn thing and then remove the cd drive. don't know what happened, but o well. it was and old burner and i was going to buy a new one anyway.

to be honest, it's pretty rare that cd's are even burned anymore these days with ipods and dvd burners to take their place. i just needed to burn one cd, but found a work-around for it.
 
Most of the high temp engine paints are not recommended for plastic parts. They have strong solvents in them that will eat your plastic up. They are almost exclusively used for metal parts.

Sorry to hear it ruined your drive, but just be aware that most paints are selective on what you can use it for.
 
i'm an idiot. my dvd burner also burns cds, lol. good thing i found that out AFTER i ****ed up my cd burner.
