This is continuation of my first thread about "what PDA to get?". I've done alot of research today and yesterday and now I have a decision to make. Should I go with Palm TX or Ipaq rx1955. They both cost around $200 online, so tell me which one you think is better bang for the buck.
Below is a link to comparison between the two PDA (by Newegg)

Thank you

The Palm is a bit better spec wise (processors are about the same, but the Palm has the ARM).

IMO I would stay away from the Palm OS, but thats just because I favor Windows Mobile. Either one will suite your needs. I have the RX3115 which has bluetooth as well, and I love it.

I don't know much about the Samsung processors, but most PDAs use ARM based ones(or Xscale) I don't know how the compatability is with the Samsung ones... But as the others said, the Palm has better specs. Memory's a bit issue too. Realize your memory on the device is for both your information and your running memory. If you use up all your space, you'll have problems running applications.

Which one you think is better for internet use and video?
Can the ram be increased by pluging in SD card? (cuz I'll deff put in 2gig SD)
Thank you

You can install stuff to an SD card rather than RAM, but not add to the internal memory.

As for internet, that's hard to say. The Palm should be more capable overall, but I personally know how capable WM5 is. Neither will be a computer replacement, I can tell you that. They don't support JAVA, and just barely support Flash.

I am not looking for PC replacement, I have a build PC for gaiming, laptop for school work, but I need something that I can easily carry and doesn't eat up much battery. Main uses will be browsing the web (on campus, airports, hotels) checking my email, calendar to record appointments and HW assignments, watch movies when I live town (airplanes, airports, bus). Last time when I wanted to get a PDA I ended up buying Toshiba Laptop, but now since I have a built PC and a laptop I am sure I'll buy a PDA :) The reason I got really interested in getting one is because the prices are kinda low on them right now ($199) and the features are pretty good (mainly wi-fi).

i have one, love it. i play games, run movies, surf internet and everything else that low-end dells can do. definetaly get a palm, they rule

Again, one thing your paying for is Windows. I would take the Rx1955 simply because it has Windows Mobile, but thats just me.

Actually, I would buy a PDA on ebay. You can find the Rx1955 for well under $200, i've seen a few sell for around $150.

Yep, now it seems that I'll be going with Ipaq R1955 because they are for sale at $225 new, vs Palm is $189 but its refubrished which I dont really like to hear because battery is not user replacable.

Oh I have a question about Ipaq R1955.
My friend said that if the battery is removed, Ipaq would loose all of its information that is stored on the device it self.
Is that true?

If it is, does it mean I cant swap batterys.

Nope, untrue.

The higher end models have a backup battery built in (I cant recall if the 1955 does). But it has Windows Mobile 5, which stores data differently, so if the power runs out or you remove the battery, your programs and files wont be lost. (I used to have the Rx1955)

I don't know how new that PDA is, but some even newer ones totally eliminate the backup battery. I know the Axim x51 doesn't have a backup battery unlike my x5. Some feature with WM5 I beleive...?

Hey, well I borrowed my friends Palm E2 and NavMan pocket PC, after spending about an hour screwing with each one I found out that I'd rather have Windows OS then Palm one because I am more used to windows and just like the way it is more. So I'll be deffinately be getting Ipaq rx1955, but I was wondering how is the battery life on these units.
Thank you

Thats why I like Windows Mobile, im much more used to it.

Well I ended up ordering refubrished Ipaq hx2495 which is a lil bit better then rx1955 cuz of bluetooth and 560mhz processor. Well its suposed to arrive sometime at the end of this week. Can't wait :)

I want to get a PDA for basically the same reasons you do. I have a laptop already and am getting ready to build a desktop of my own soon. But I would like something small and not so bulky to check emails and surf the net when I travel and am out.
But I am concerned about if I will like the Palm's OS is it very difficult to navigate and can you run stuff like Word on it or do you need a Windows Mobile OS to do that. I would honestly like to look at getting a Palm but I would like to take a look at them first I think to check it out.
