Hey everybody!

So, I'm planning on building a new computer. This is my first DIY pc and it's all very exciting so far, even though I haven't even bought the parts! I plan on overclocking the CPU, and possibly installing more RAM later on. So, my question is: Are all these components compatible, and is the case big enough? 800 dollars is alot to drop, and I want to make sure these all fit together. Thank you in advance for any help, it is very much appreciated.

Save a few bucks and get the 955 BE C3.

Thats a 790 board. Go for a 800 series board even though there is no difference in the northbridge other then a name change, look for one with a 850 southbridge.

Try to go for atleast DDR3 1600.

Get a Western Digital Black or Samsung F3 or Seagate 7200.12.

Dont really like the Antec 600. There are better cases for the money.

Thank you for the input, Stranglehold. Couldn't I just raise the bus speed, and it would work at 1600mHz? I know the nice thing about an unlocked multiplier is you don't have to do that, but considering it would increase my RAM speed, wouldn't I save money buying 1333mHz? I'm a bit new at this.

Really depends on the memory you get. Going from 1333 to 1600 would require fooling with the memory voltage and timing. In general the price difference between 1333 and 1600 is not all that much. You would save some money getting a 955 instead of the 965. As long as they are C3 stepping, both overclock about the same.
 
Awesome, you can use Newegg then.

You could possibly overclock your RAM to that speed, but 1600 sticks are made to run like that from the factory...no overclocking required. You can also overclock them further, should you so desire...although the norm for AMD overclocking is to downclock by one multiplier setting and tighten the timings. You can get it back to proper speed by raising the bus speed. Interesting stuff, really.

That's really exceptional at 798. You did the deal looking for me, too! Haha. I really appreciate your help. It seems like you do quite a bit for us builders, I see.
Do you think I'll require any additional case fans, CPU/GPU cooling, or anything like that? I game for hours on end, and I'll be overclocking.

Also, if I do get the crossfire 6850, would 650W PSU still be enough?
 
650w is plenty if it's a quality one.

A note on 1600mhz RAM: If you do get 1600mhz, you want CAS7 or CAS8 timings (lower is better) and you'll have to manually setup the speed (raising a multiplier) voltage (changing an option) and configuring the timings (the most complicated bit)

All in all it's not too hard. timings go like this: CAS Latency (CL), RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD) RAS Precharge (tRP), Cycle Time (tRAS), Bank Cycle Time (tRC) and Command Rate (CR)

In order from left to right, they go 9-9-9-24-34-2T (for CAS9 sticks). In the BIOS you'd be finding them, and changing them to what they are rated for. they are in the same order in the BIOS (although they from top to bottom instead of left to right)

Voltage and Speed will be under the same area, if not they will be in overclocking/cpu area of the BIOS.

Speed and voltage are self explanatory, just raise/lower them to what the sticks are rated for.
 
^The RAM speed doesn't make that big of a difference in most situations...or at least not with a Phenom. Athlons are a different story.

That RAM should tighten to at least CAS8 though...maybe better. Everything I've read about Team Xtreem RAM shows them to be excellent overclockers. I know of at least one person who had a kit rated at [email protected] running at [email protected]. :eek:
