Partition and reinstalling os

i have 1 hard drive and i am planning on reinstalling the operating system, i have 2 partitions on my 1 hard drive the main one with most of the files and the other with the files i want to keep after i reinstall the operating system, when i do a complete reinstall will both partitions be wiped clean or will the main one be the one the gets wiped clean and the other stays as it is
 
Any partition that you delete and/or format will be wiped out. If you are reinstalling XP I don't know if it will show you the partition labels or if you just have to recognize them by size so it may be hard to tell which is the one you want to wipe.
 
so if it shows 2 local disks under computer menu, they will both get wiped out when i reinstall operating system which is vista, is there a way that i can choose to put the operating system on just C: in stead of the other one which is B:.
