Partition Help

[Armpits]

Hey guys, I have 2 partitions.

C: for Windows.
D: for music and such.

Is it possible to take some space and add it onto Drive C without formatting etc?



Running on Windows 7 (x64), hope you can help!

I've never tried it, but it can be done. You could use a utility like this: http://download.cnet.com/******-Partition-Master-Home-Edition/3000-2248_4-10863346.html. I recommend that you back up your data first, just to be safe.

But why? If C: is for Windows, why can't you put the rest of your stuff on D:?

Total of C drive is 90 gigs.

And you ran out of space on it? Sounds like you have documents and personal files on the c drive. Transfer them to the other partition.

this is what you need to do

1) go to the start menu then right click computer and click manage

2) on the left hand side, you got storage, and under that disk management. click on disk management

3) on the bottom of the screen you will notice all the drive partitions availablre.

4) right click on d and hit shrink volume. this will take some time depending on how big your partition is

5) Input the amount you want to partition, this will create a new partition.

6) Once thats done, right click on your c drive and select extend volume

7) click on the newly created partition and now you have successfully extended your c drive.

How come when I right click on my computer > manage - nothing comes up?

Try going to Control Panel-->Administrative Tools-->Computer Management-->Disk Management instead.

Your current partition layout prevents you from doing that operation from disk management anyways. You need a 3rd party tool.

If D is currently empty then you can do it (by removing it and then extending C).

If D is a recovery partition I would make sure you make recovery disks from it first.

You have to resize D partition with a partition software, then add that allocated space to C partition.
