Partition Help

I installed Windows XP onto a 200GB hard drive when I built my computer. I installed a 500GB hard drive later for use as storage. I didn't partition either when I installed them. I am now trying to reinstall Windows on the 200gb drive with a partition so it will (hopefully) quit freezing up on me. When I try to partition it during the setup, though, it won't let me. It tells me it can't be done because files needed for the setup are on the drive. I tried installing Windows to the other drive and then reformating and partitioning the first one, but that didn't work either (same reason). Any ideas?

Use the Windows XP install disk, put it in the computer then restart it and then you should get an option to format the drive before installing Windows.

Back Up Data you want on your 200GB onto your 500GB

- Boot Of Windowz Xp Disk
- Delete the whole of the 200gb by pressing L and then Enter if my memory remains intact
- Partition the drive how u want it

Another Thing. Windowz Sp1 only supports hard drives up too 133Gb i believe it was, so your going to need SP2

For some reason, it goes straight to the setup. When it asks me which partition I want to use, I try to delete the existing partitions, but that's when it gives me the error message.

I finally got it to work. I had to unplug one, then the other, juggling the OS back and forth until it would let me partition the right drive.
