Partition Magic messed up my 2GB thumbdrive

So I just got a netbook with a 160GB hard drive that i partitioned into two drives. I was trying to merge them back together using Partition Magic 8, and I had a 2GB usb thumbdrive connected while i was doing this. So when I opened the program I got a prompt from Partition Magic saying it found an error in the partition (I assumed it was the partition on my netbook), and it asked if it should fix the problem. I said yes, and it apparently efffed up my usb drive because all my data on the drive looks weird

and the capacity of the drive is now only 1.38MB.

So my question is, can I get my data back, and if so how? Thanks

What I would do is open up Partition Magic again and make sure that the program didn't try to allocate any of the space on the flash drive to be part of the volume on your physical hard drive (maybe it merged the two partitions and most of the flash drive [which is more than likely not what happened, I think]). I don't know if this is possible, but to check my theory ;), check to make sure you don't have more space on your hard drive than you should. (ie 162GB).

No, it didn't merge the two partitions, it just messed up my usb thumbdrive. Is there a way I can restore the thumbdrive back to its original state before it got messed up?

If you have any recovery software use it to scan the usb drive. If you are lucky it will be able to get most/all of your stuff back.

Something like this http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/diskdirector/ might work. You may be able to find a free tool to do the same thing but Disk Director has some good tools if you know what you are doing and some wizard based things if you don't.

I use Data Rescue II which works both on Mac and PC. It isn't free but that is what I use to recover data.
