I hope this is the right spot for this lol

ok, i want to dual boot my computer into Ubuntu and MCE 2k5, I have two hard drives, how should i partition and would partitioning my HDD foramt it? thus making me have to back up my files first? Thanks for the help
 
Partition more space than you think you'll need for windows. Chances are you'll use windows way more than linux. What ever is left use for linux. If you want to share data between the 2, I would use FAT32. You can share with NTFS as well but you need to get NTFS drivers for linux (ubuntu might have them included I'm not sure).

But you can more or less partition them however you want. There's not exactly set rules for how to partition your drives for dual booting :P
 
ok, so i think ill do a 60/40 split, now how can i go about this? i dont have a floppy drive or anything, just a CD/dvd drive. How should i go about this? do i need to backup my files? what about reinstalling windows?
 
The ubuntu installer can partition your drive, as can windows. You should install windows first. It's less of a headache that way. Partition the space you want for windows and leave the rest as unpartitioned space until you go to install ubuntu.
