Partitioned HDD and Linux

I partitioned a 500gb hdd. Which I use to use for storage, till it got formatted.

Now, I used Gparted to make three partitions, which I still see on the Gparted list. And when I put Vista Home Basic OEM in my burner, and boot up, it shows my DS3 start up screen, then a black screen with white letters, saying Boot from CD DVD drive. Which it always does. And then under it, it says Press any key to boot from CD DVD drive. And I push some keys and stuff, then I hear a clicking noise coming from the HDD section of my computer.

And also, once I got the vista installation to work, and I went to choose a partition on the installation screen, all three of them said its corrupt or something and will not run correctly. Something like that.

And how do I format a hard drive with Linux Clark Connect on it?

Thanks

You apparently didn't use GParted correctly there. The first on the drive being the NTFS type primary would be for Vista. The other two root+swap would be extended for the VFat type there. You probably made all three VFat? That would explain the errors seen. You will have to delete the first and create a new NTFS primary from the list of partition types.

Once you have that done you can boot with the Vista disk and choose the format option from the repair tools section found below the "Install Now" option on the bottom half of the screen there. That will format the new primary once selected from the drives and partitions found.

For reformatting a Linux type VFat partition a tool like CFDisk or some versions of GParted have that option. That will also wipe the Clark Connect at the same time. Even you delete that partition and create a new VFat to replace it you will still need a Linux tool to format it.

I tried putting in the Vista Home Basic installation CD, thinking that, that it would format the drive.

But it insisted on booting CC...

Even gparted doesnt work.
And the gparted cd worked for me in the past with the 500gb drive.

If GParted won't delete the existing partitions on the drive your last option would be a zero filling utility like Active Killdisk to totally wipe the drive. This sees nothing but binary zeros written to the drive to annihilate anything there. Which release of GParted are you currently using? If the Clark Connect is a bit newer then an older GPart release you could go with a newer one or simply go for Killdisk.

There are two versions with the free one found at http://www.killdisk.com/downloadfree.htm Hopefully you have a floppy drive installed since this is one of many dos based drive tools. But you forgot to mention the version of GParted you have been using like I forgot to post a link for this earlier. I guess we're both doing good there. :P

Of course sourceforge.net also offers their own drive tool called Eraser ready for immediate download at http://sourceforge.net/project/down...ser&filename=Eraser57Setup.zip&use_mirror=umn I thought I would add this one in as well since LCC is a Linux program there.

Know someone close with a cd burner? To get here you must be using another system since yours is down at the moment. Without a floppy drive to create a boot disk for Killdisk or a burner on a working system for burning a live GParted version to a cd-r you won't be getting anywhere fast.

Without a floppy drive installed on the system you normally would use someone will have to burn a copy for you there or slave the drive in another case to use the disk management tool in Windows there.
