Partitioning a harddrive in use?

And if yes... the harddrive is a 250gb harddrive. I have about 90gb being used at the moment. So if I partition 80gb of that harddrive for Windows 7, will that hurt my harddrives performance?

it should work fine but i suggest backing up your important stuff just incase

As long as it's not the windows drive you should be able to format/repartition/resize the partitions with the vista disk manager. If you have XP you'll need a non-windows utility. As said above, backup your data first there's a chance it will fail.
