im looking to build a computer which will be hooked up to an lcd tv. the tv might be replaced down the line so im looking for something that can be used as to display tv on a monitor. ive been thinkin aabout something dual core, 2gb ram and 300-500 gb hard disk. anyone any suggestions for parts and where to source them? I need to be able to get them in the uk. thanks.

ok So no gaming. And the watching TV part makes no sense when your gonna be playing on a TV heh. Someone will post tomorrow with a build.

yes at the minute it will be viewed on a tv, but the tv is likely to be replaced with a monitor so if the computer was able to display tv and record it so it could be played back later that would be better.

Do you need a TV card in your PC?
Any requirement with case? Like HTPC match with your Living room?
What is your budget?

oh and tv inputs are rgb cables, s-video, co ax input and another input labeled video which appears to be the same connection as a monitor connection on computer (not the digital one) and a scart socket.

If you are not confidence to build it yourself, you can pay £60 for them to build it for you.

Also if you have more money, you could go for a E8200/E8400 or a better video card like HD3650/ HD3850 instead (If you get better GPU, you need a better PSU as well).

thanks for the reply daisymtc. Why have you select vista? just curious. Ive got an mce license available but not restricting myself. had used vista before and really didnt like it. also what about a tv card?
