Passive GFX that's at least 2x as fast as hd4870

I'm into silent computing, I want to make my computer near dead silent. Obviously it's not really practical to build a completely silent machine because that will have power limitations.

So I have some near silent noctua fans in my computer.

I know that there's one powercolor gpu I beleive it's AMD 6XXX, but are there any other more recent graphics card out there that are passively cooled?

I think the 6770 is the fastest passive cooled GPU out I think. And the 6770 is far from double the 4870. It is about 20% better, and that is only because of the refined chip. The 4870 will kick the arse of the 6770 at memory intensive task because of double bandwidth over it.

You could probably CF it to get the 200% you are looking for, but I would not advise it unless your quiet fans are pushing some massive air through the case because of heat issues.

edit: take that back, it is not CF compatible.

passive cooler, stick it on a 6770 and see if it supports those silent fans, if so order another of it and the 6770 and you're done.

are these things any effective? they only transfer heat off the GPU most of the gfx cards these days need to have a full face heatsink because the other chips on the board run hot too.

Ok maybe a passive cooled card isn't the best solution. I intend to stick a quiet case fan like a noctua onto the heatsink to increase cooling ability a little. But at very little rpm which makes the fan inaudible.

there's a cooling fan add on for that cooler but idk how loud it is, was saying to add the silent fans to it cuz it it made to take the fans but they might have a custom mount.

CF is also going to increase the heat inside the case. I have an antc case (forgot tthe name) which is from the silent series and I padded iot out with extra insulation so it's pretty will soundproofed, but one side affect is that it traps heat. So CF is out the question.

I don't really play demanding games, I play wot and some 3 year old versions of nfs which aren't demanding at all.

Really, the best thing to do is to get whatever card you want and just manually control the fan speed to a low level. Something around 30% or less and it will be cool and fairly quiet. I can not hear my 4870 at 30%, I am fairly certain most newer ones will be a lot quieter.

otherwise you could go ahead and do a full liquid look for gpu and cpu, will be very quiet and very cold so no heat issues at all
