Hi All

Just joined the forum. I've got a labtop / password problem. The labtop is a Dell Inspiron 6400 with Vista. It's about 3 years old. I've always had a password on it (which is requested about 15 seconds after turning labtop on).

Last night my other half was trying to create a "password" for an individual folder on the desktop which has some important information in it. I was with her when she was doing it, she right-clicked on the folder and went into "security" but neither of us could work it out.

However, now we can't even get on the laptop :( as my previous password doesn't work :( which is strange as i think the most she done was "un-check" a box on the security tab or something, she definitly didn't type in any new passwords

Now i am left with a labtop i can't access and i can't find any original disks with the labtop to re-install anything, am i screwed? :(

When i type in the original password and it doesn't work a little prompt comes up saying "reset password" but if i click on that it says "the feature requires removable media such as a floppy disk or connect a USB flash drive and then try again"

Many thanks in advance for any suggestions here

Alex

at this point the only thing you can do is reinstall windows find a friend to download windows xp and make a cd for you and reinstall it thats the only thing you can do. Some laptops have a restore point in the startup when you press f8

did u create a reset password. If yes all u do is insert the storage device u create it on. and now u can create a new password.
