PC and electricity bill

Hey fellas lately my electricity bill has went up and my mom is blaming me and my pc. I have the following:

e4300
seasonic 600W s12 power supply
8800gtx
2X1024 xms2 pc6400c4
armour 8000 case
samsung 226bw 22inch monitor
Logitech X-540 speakers
p5b deluxe wifi mobo
zalman 9500led heatsink

I leave my baby on 5-8 hours on a day and then I put it to "SLEEP" mode when not using it. My other question is, would leaving pc on for long periods of time reduce its lifespan? Do you guys think my system is sucking a lot of power and making my bills rise?

well its definately using alot of power, but id be surprised if it increased your electrical bill by much at all, and my computer is on most of the time, i turn it off basically when im not downloading, and it still runs liek its brand new (i also just reformatted it)

A PC and monitor would be hard pressed to burn $10 worth of electricity in a month... my son and I have run tests just to find out

WOW!!!!!!Only $10???? How ling did you run it for?? Do you have high end stuff like my 8800gtx which sucks a lot of power?

My electricity bill is constantly on the rise, I put mine in stand by when I am not using it. My Dad said his might have went up a little, of course, I got my new PC in the winter when the heat was running. That is the smart thing to do, lol.

Once I wanted to find out how much extra on my electricity bill it would cost if I started using a Air Conditioner, I called up my electricity company and asked them about the whole thing, then they asked the model number of the Air Conditioner and after I told them they called back about an hour later and told me how much it would cost to run it.

maybe you can do this with a computer?

Kent.

We checked the meter and noted the usage month to month. He has a $4000 rig with quad core $10 was the biggest change
That was with both our rigs running 24/7

Leaving it on for long periods of time should not affect its lifespan.

It's difficult to tell without knowing how much time your spend idling, and how much time at load, but to give some rough approximations:

I'll assume you're using ~350W on average, including monitor. This is a reasonable approximation, but as I said it will vary significantly depending on what you're doing.

350W * 8 Hours per day = 2.8KWh
2.8KWh * 31 days per month = 86.8KWh/month

Assume 7c per KWh:
86.8KWh/month * 0.07$/KWh = $6.08

So your computer is costing very roughly $6 per month in electricity.

If you're more interested you can use a device such as a Kill-a-Watt to record your power consumption, and figure out the total cost that way.

my pc is on 24/7 and along with the other 2 pc's in the house which are left on 24/7 and are electricity bill maybe $5 more than the usual
