pc benchmarking software

I would like to know if the pc that i have now live up to the numbers that i see on the box.

What program can i use to test?

SiSoftware's Sandra was alway a favorite among a good number of people. The Everest free edition is one no longer seen and "Flaky" from the problems with giving inaccurate temp readings and other things lately. Speaking of benchmarking is there a way I can see if vmware is faster or virtual pc/server.

Regarding benchmarking an older 2004 article used SiSoftware's Sandra to compare the two. The results are at the articel seen at http://arstechnica.com/reviews/apps/vm.ars/1

Thats the same version of pcmark that i used.

Is there a place where i can go to see what all these number means?

The main site for PCMark05 should have something on this. There is also a full retail version seen there along with support. http://www.futuremark.com/products/pcmark05/
