PC bombing out.

I put the whole Stop Message into Google & it took me to a PC Helper 360 Download. This did a Scan of my Hard drive & came up with 2161 problems, mainly Registry issues. It then wanted £19 to fix the problems.
Is there any similar free Programs you know of that could clean my Hard drive?
Also would it do the same thing if I re-format my PC? If so whats the best way to go about re-formatting?
Cheers guys.

Mate, that's probably scam software. I would immediately download and install Malwarebytes and do a scan for viruses with it just to check you haven't been infected by that software.

Don't ever download any registry cleaners. They're pretty much all bogus.

The PSU issue may have damaged your RAM (very common). Remove all but one stick of RAM. Use your computer for a day and if you don't get a problem, replace it (don't just add - replace) with another stick and repeat until you find the offending ram module.

Whilst doing the above, ensure you have no overclocks and your RAM settings (voltage and frequency) are set correctly in the BIOS. Also ensure you have the latest BIOS.

Thanks guys.
I am comfortable removing the Ram sticks but wouldn't know where to start with checking the BIOS settings. Overclocking I believe is to do with ramping up the CPU speed, again this is way over my head & I wouldn't know where to start.
Would re-formatting not clear out my registry? I know its a bit drastic but if I back up what I need first onto a seperate portable hard drive there shouldn't be an issue, should they.
I will be away from my Computer now until Dinner. Thanks for the advise.

Hi guys.
I thought I would give you a quick update of where i'm at. I have removed 1 stick of 512MB DDR-400MHZ-CL3 PC3200U-30330 ( I can almost hear you laughing from here, guessing that its really antequated ) and rebooted. I know its early days but its like having a new machine. The Mouse Cursor just glides across the Monitor going exactly where its told, smoothly with no freezing & so far no crashes. I will monitor it over the next few days & post back. Fingers crossed.
Thank you all so much for your input into my problems. I really do appreciate it. I bow to your talents.
PS.
Should all go well, how much should I expect to pay for a replacement stick?

Best regards.

Steve.
