NOTE: Sorry if this is in the wrong place, this is just most suitable place I thought.

Hello all, Some of you may know how to clean your computer but some might not, so I thought I would post this guide on how to complete you computer healthy (Some methods taken from various sites)

Materials

Here are a list of materials that I generally use when cleaning my system, but they may vary if you cannot get hold of them

  • Lint free cotton cloth
  • Can of compressed air
  • Glass Cleaner
  • Cotton Swabs
  • Screwdriver (Lots of types)
  • Clean cloth
  • Toothpick

Like I said you may have different things you want to use, but this is what I use.

Keyboard Cleaning:

We'll start with the keyboard, there are 3 different ways in which you can clean your keyboard and these all depend on what sort of state your keyboard is in.

If your keyboard is clogged with dust or other small particles then you can simply lift the keys off (with a screwdriver) and give the plastic part a rub down with the cloth or used the compressed air to blow the particles out.
You could break your keyboard warning: Trying to remove larger keys such as space or shift can cause the keys to break so take care.

If you have spilled fizzy drinks or other stuff that can get sticky inside the keyboard or if the keys are still stuck and you have tried the above method the next step would be to take the screws off the back of the keyboard and completely take the keyboard apart.
You could ruin your keyboard setup warning: Make sure you take a picture of your keyboard setup so you can put the keys back in the right place.
Then take off the plastic moulding then wipe the plastic covered PCB and the key mounts. Then put it back together.

The last method is if you need to clean your keys, this one also has the same warning as the one above, simply take all your keys and place them in a sock or something and tie the sock in a knot. Then put it in a washing machine.

That covers keyboard cleaning, now onto:

It's a good start: as for any guide the emphasis is on thorough and well-organized :) Still working on the Cooling 101 myself so it'll be a bit before i get to this :)

nice guide =] found it funny where you said to tie the keys in a sock to put in washing machine.. dont think ill try that though .. haha =] good job.

I think that is an excellent idea! i took all my off but washed them in a tub in the kitchen sink, and that took awhile. . .
