Hi...
I have P IV 2.6 GHz....with 400watt SMPS n Intel D101 motherboard...
The problem is since last week it automatically gets restarted without making any noise or sound... even if we is it due to faulty SMPS or any other problem ( I wonder if mother board battery can do it ) ?

Thanx

On some boards that can be the case at times once a battery does get weak before deciding to simply quit one day. It never hurts to have a few onhand anyways since they are a low cost item to begin with.

Besides that being likely on a system a year or older you have a P4 cpu which are known to run warmer then other lines of cpus. The first things to look at would be temps cpu, board, and others as well as looking to see if all fans are running or you need to more. After a good period of time fans will get saturated with dust drawn in.

Besides a possible need for a new battery or high temps you could have a supply problem or memory flaws now being realized. First look over the temps in the bios hardware monitor if the board there has that feature or try a program like PC Wizard 2008 found at http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php

hmm it could also maybe a heating issue, my older comps restart with no warning bcus he HSF wasnt cooling enough

Don't forget if the system there has a stock heat sink/fan combination the thermal pad between the cpu and the hsf itself is likely hardened up from age and wear. The fan can be toast as well or simply slowed to a crawl by the build up of dust over a period of time. But batteries go just as well especially on older systems.
