lately my pc has being shutting down for no praticular reason, normally it shuts down in the middle of the night, when i'm not using and when i turn back on the pc, it does not show any error. therefore i can't see what is the reason for it, i'm guessing it could b my power supply overheating. but what else can it be.

Besides a power supply fan being clogged with dust or having failed your cpu temps could be reaching a point where the overheat protection circuit is kicking in to protect the system. On older boards there was a manual temp setting to do just this when the cpu reached a certain point. For most newer boards the process is automatic. A look at the hardware monitor in the bios or downloading a free program like SpeedFan or SIW can point that out by seeing what that is.

Do you have another PSU to use and test to see if it is in fact your current PSU at fault? If not, as PC Eye said, download a hardware temp monitoring application (I personally recommend PC Wizard 2007) and see if any of those temps hit a high number before restarting. Is your room hot where the PC is located? What is the spec of the PC? Have you done a virus scan to make sure that it isn't some sort of virus causing the issue?

Breaks.

A virus will cause startup problems not simply shut a system down when it runs well any other time. Ruling out an overheating problem is first thought there. For SpeedFan you can grab that free at http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

Since some have seen problems with SpeedFan at times an effective free program found that provides a complete breakdown of both hardwares and softwares is the SIW tool found at http://www.gtopala.com/ In the procesor section it accurately reads the current temps. Are you running a stock cooler or 3rd model?

check windows log. Go to start, right click my comp, manage, event viewer and it probily would be under system

overheating is a possibility, but not the most likely one. If it tends to happen over a sustained period of low load it suggest a vdroop error.
Maybe check the outputs from your psu as well as your temps

The supply can't be ruled out if you are seeing a bad cap or loss of regulation. If it is the supply you will start seeing startup problems as well since that is one of the times when the heaviest load is placed on it. A bad cap on the board itself won't need a high temp either. But keeping an eye on the temps is still a good idea there. It's a process of elimination to determine the actual cause.
