Pc keeps on 'on & off' automatically

I having this annoying problems when i push the power button on the casing, the pc power on but after a while it off for it self, its like suddenly press the reset button and this keeps going on and on. So the pc is like keep on resetting by itself. It happens very randomly and sometimes my pc will successfully boot up till windows, but after a while windows will automatically shut down (proper shut down) by itself. At first i thought it was a virus that causing the windows to shut down automatically, but after a while i remembered that by pushing power button, windows will automatically shut down, now i am not sure whether its my mobo problem or my power button's problem or even its the cable (connected to power switch to motherboard) problem, so confused now. how to check??
 
not psu problem tough

i am very sure its not my psu problem coz i just bought this 650 W PSU few months back and i have tried it on another pc with no problems. Anyway, my mobo is Asus A7V600.
 
Scan for viruses anyway and be certain your system is clean first. After that...you'd have to troubleshoot certain parts individually, including your PSU just to rule it out. What are you systems specs?
 
I would check that power button. If I where you, i'd unplug the wiring for the power button, and use a multitester to see if the power button isn't fluctuating on and off or something.

If you don't know how to do that, just ask, It's not that difficult, and will not harm your computer in anyway.

i think its not virus problem anyway, coz i have managed to format my hard drive (with the on and off problem of course). And its not hardware incompatible problem neither coz i have been using this comp for 3 yrs with the same spec (part of this is because i am lazy to digg out all the specs though). Hmm....for the multimeter, i don't have one, so i will have to look for one? But now i am thinking of switching the power button (together with its cable) with another pc and try whether it works.
 
Well, the PSU would be the next easiest thing to test actually, rather than doing case-surgery. You mentioned the PSU worked in another system? How long was it on for, were the other system's specs similar to yours?
 
my problem solved, i power on my pc and plugged off the power connector, then it works with no problem, after that i plugged in the connector again and now no problems anymore.

good, its better when you find the solution by yourself, so you will know how to deal with these next time
