Alright.
I am looking for tips and help for hosting a good PC LAN.

The LAN server:
Intel Pentium 4 @ 3.7Ghz.
1Gb Dual Channel
80gb Hdd.
Windows XP Pro.
And a 24 port switch.

I plan to host a few games.
CSS mainly.
Maybe some 2142.
C&C 3
Stuff like that.

Any type of information will help.
Like experiences, ext.

Thanks

i know that would be ok for counter strike source, but do the others have a dedicated server mode? If not you might want a video card. Otherwise it looks pretty good.

well some games don't have a dedicated server mode, therefor what ever computer is hosting would actually be a player, like halo for example. You can do a dedicated server, you'll just have one player that just stands there, now for far cry you wouldn't need it because u'd just leave it in spectator mode. But u see what i mean, 2142 might not even run without a gfx card. I've never played it. But with that setup you're good for CS.

I hooked up internet with ICS on my server.
What if I dont want internet for the whole LAN.

Can I just attach everything except the internet connection, and still do LAN stuff?

Thanks

My tip is make sure you have a shite load of data cables, double adaptors, extention cables, and those power boards that turn one plug into like 11.

Yeah, you will need a big switch if you plan to LAN party. I've heard of a LAN party "DJ" service, they bring a server comp to your location and get everything running for you and monitor it while you play.
