pc not loading past windows loading screen (win 7)

hey all,

feeling like a bit of a tart, but there was a power cut last night cut me off mid session and now this morning cant get into windows.

what happens is it gets all the way to the windows seven loading screen (the black one with shimmering windows logo) then my pc just powers off, no errors or bsod's)

i have tried the default repair options on the win 7 install disk, (dont have any restore points )

i know i can format and just re-install, but i would rather not if there is a solution to just get it back going, any ideas?

Determine what brand of hard drive you have, then download and make a bootable cd of their disk diagnostic software and perform the extended/long test. You may have other issues besides the hard drive, possibly the power supply as well.
