PC only recognising 2 channel

So i have an intergrated VIA soundcard (7.1) and i have my 5.1 samsung HD surround hooked up via an opticl connection (SPDIF) all works ok.

Seems its only recognising 2 channel audio..not 5 channel and surround should be. Dobly Digital or DTS never appear on the reciever and eveything is just coming through the speakers..not surround style eg. The centre and surround are attempting to produce bass...

Quite annoying, please help.

Im hoping theres a certain sound driver I can download?

Could it be as simple as loading the mainboard drivers?

Sounds like it may be a sound configuration. You might want to check your audio software and make sure it is set to 5.1 channel and not the standard 2.
