So im tired of hearing the different ways on naming a computer. My instructor at school calls a computer a cpu as well as a few other people i know. I personally hate that bc the cpu (central processing unit) is the processor. And the PC (personal computer) is the computer as a whole.

So in essence im just trying to see what the general consensus is on this.

So is the computer a PC or a CPU?

(I know this is a waste of forum space but i figured i might as well ask)

There really isn't much of an argument, people who call it a CPU are wrong. A PC is the correct name unless there is some other abbreviations for CPU that I am unaware of.

Calling a computer a CPU is like calling a computer a RAM, or calling a computer a GPU. It's just one part of the whole. There's no question your instructor, and anyone else who calls a pc a CPU, is wrong.

awsome....i already knew this and it pissed me off whenever anyone called it a cpu. One of those things where it just gets under ur skin and ur like "can u really be that stupid". Thanks. Just wanted to check and see what other people thought.

I can see why people call it a CPU, because the tower actually is the "Central processing unit", where all the work takes place. But PC is the correct term.

yeahh ahaa, i know people that call a computer a CPU ahaa, if i told them what a CPU was, they'd probrably want 2 kill themselves lmao, 4 calling the PC a CPU all this time...

Well I say it's a CPU

...yes, I'm just being smart :P PC = Personal Computer. CPU = Central Processing Unit, or the unit that does all the processing. Processing is done inside the computer, or personal computer.

the Optical's would be the eye's.. ;) the video card would be your immagination ^^ and the ram + HDD would be the memory of the brain.

but then... its has no leg's.. I feel sad for pc's now.. :P :D

well PC inst correct for everything anyway i think. a computer can also be called a Mac, which istn a PC....i think...

and i hate people that call pc's CPU's, once someone told me their CPU wasnt working properly, so i tried to explain to them what to do about an Acutally CPU, before i relised that they actullay meant their PC... :S
