PC Problem

Okay i've just upgraded my PC with a new CPU, mobo and RAM.
No problems with build worked first time except it just randomly restarts but only really when gaming usually every 30 or so minutes.

I first thought it was vista - so i wiped my hdd and went back to XP - nope still did it.
I've disabled automatic restarts but it doesn't blue screen not once.
Windows event viewer has no problems no errors that are relevent.

Then i though it was the RAM so i did 2 memory tests and they both were successful.

Then i thought it was the PSU so i brought a new PSU - and it still did it.

Cooling isn't really an issue im pritty well ventilated 3 case fans, cpu fan & psu fan - it a good airflow and i've put a big room fan on the side of it and before it even got worm it shut down.

I've re-installed the os, stripped it down and i can't find what it is.
Please could someone help.

The game itself is most likely the reason unless it's simply from the video drivers used. ATI or NVida for video there? The Catalyst 7.9 is one to avoid for both XP and Vista alike for a newer ATI model.
 
Go into your bios and see what your temps are saying. The problems you are having sound just like a Temp problem.

I know you have case fans, but those will not always keep things cool.

If your CPU fan does not have thermal paste, or enough on it, it will over heat. Which is what it sounds like it is doing.

It could also be your video card overheating.

On the new build here games and even multimedia would see a sudden system restart while temps were like 23C for a cpu temp and still have never seen over 32C for the video card. The problem could simply be the wrong version of video or even sound drivers.

Between Creative's auto updater seeing Vista drivers going on XP and ATI's problems with the Catalyst 7.9 everything was going haywire. The 7.10 cleaned things up in Vista after the sound was corrected. And hopefully the 7.11 for XP will clean up a few other minor things for XP here. But some have also had driver issues with the NVdia models as well.

Yeah, but what worry's me is that he just changed his CPU. Did he do it right?

Drivers are always a possibility. But this sounds to much like an overheating problem.
 
Want to talk about seeing something overheat on a new build. The Zalman 9700 when first installed here reached 107C! :eek: !!! and was hot when placing a hand over the top of the case. One small bit of the edge of one of the fan blades caught up on one of the copper ribs to see that. The system never restarted or shutdown since that was thrown off quickly.

If there is any ocing going on it would be too soon on new build until the thermal paste/compound saw a good breakin period at least a few days before running any good loads even stock. Some general system information would be a help in case the supply was inadequate for the new build there. Or simply a weak cap in the supply would see problems fast.
