PC/Processor for editing 1080/24P 32Mbps AVCHD

Hello, I've been looking around the internet for computer specs that are suitable for editing 1080/24p 32MBps AVCHD videos using Sony Vegas Pro and Magic Bullet. I come from a Mac background, so looking around for what to buy has been kind of a hassle. I know I'll probably need 4-8GB of RAM and a juicy graphics card, but I'm kind of torn between processors.

Basically, I'm just wondering if an AMD Athlon II X4 630 could do the trick. If not, would the AMD Phenom II X4 965 work or would I need something with even more juice like the Phanton II X6 to edit the footage?

the Phenom II would be better from what you listed, but an i5 would be just as good (if not better), and an i7 would be the best. really, the more threads, the better and the i7 has turbo boost if you end up not using cores. and you probably want to shoot for 8 GB RAM for best performance.

Thanks for the speedy reply. Since you mentioned more cores, I started reading up on it a bit and I think I've narrowed it down to the AMD Phenom II X6 1055T (2 more cores than the $20 cheaper Phenom II X4). Now I'm just wondering, what would be the most cost effective way of building or purchasing a PC to drop that processor in? It might sound vague, but any kind of help will, again, be greatly appreciated.
 
If the software you're using uses multi-cores then I would say the Phenom II X6 would be my choice. I'm an AMD fan. :D The Phenom II X6 has a feature that will underclock 3 cores and overclock the other 3 to increase performance.

+1 the phenom x6 will be awesome for your purpose
 
Hmm... I don't know the bitrate right off of my videos, but my i7 920 works quite well when editing videos of similar specs. However, I suspect with newer software that better utilizes GPU acceleration, we might begin to see less requirements for outrageous CPU requirements when it comes to editing.
