Friends pc doesnt always start up, and when it does start, its rly slow. Its an older emachine with XP sp3.

AVG didnt show up anything bad on a full scan..
 
I used to have a heavily tweaked working 618 MHz K6-3+ w/512 Meg PC133 SDRAM machine running WIN XP PRO sevice pack 1A that ran, (visibly speaking), almost as fast as this machine; (2.4 GHz Intel Q6600 Quadcore w/4Gb 800MHz DDR2). I think the reason for that is XP has become more and more bloated over the years. What used to be an 8 Gig XP boot partition with room to spare, is now a 37.25 Gig partition, with about 47% usage. That I think is the major reason older machines have trouble keeping up.

That said, suggestions would be :
1) Clean out all cookies.
2) Check to see if there is enough "Free Space" on "C" drive for Windopes to function properly.
3) Clean out unnecessary junk from the "C" drive.
4) Run a defrag program a few times to get the best possible defrag you can.
5) Check the bios settings to make sure they are optimized to make the machine run as fast as it stabley can.
6) Go to this webpage http://www.k6plus.com/index.php?name=Downloads&req=viewdownload&cid=1
and download "TestHDD". This is a VERY good freeware HDD checking program which :
a) will check IDE, (but not SATA), drives for bad sectors
b) give you a continuous readout of the readspeed of the part of the drive being checked
c) give you a graph of the readspeed of the entire drive, wherein undamaged sectors show up as a flat line; and damaged but still readable sectors show up as spikes upward from that line
d) allow you to remap the drive so as to exclude both bad and severely damaged sectors to the extent that "Scandisk" and "Checkdisk" won't even see them.
e) allows you to start and finish the check from any point, and at any point on the drive.
f) checks any size drive in about 15 minutes.
7) IF you can locate "PCR" files for the chipset on the mobo, then download WPCredit from the same site. WPCredit allows you to access ALL the chipset settings, (about 20,000 of them), and allows you to set things up ideally for the hardware you have. Bear in mind that mobo manufacturers have to deal with the lowest common denominator when they set up the chipset, and the bios has not got room for all the possible settings; so what they do is set the things up so things will run stabley no matter how bad the brand of hardware being used is. If the hardware being used, (RAM) is better than low grade some settings can be enhanced, resulting in about a 50% gain in memory read speed, and a 100% gain in memory write speed; BUT WPCredit requires "PCR Files" for the chipset being used; and they are mainly available for very old mobos, though if you are knowledgable enough, you can write your own "PCR Files".

You are still somewhat infected. Please do the following.

Download and Run ComboFix
If you already have Combofix, please delete this copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
