PC takes extremely long to install anything from cd/dvd!

i dont know if i posted this in the right place ;P
as the title say it takes hours to install anything. the pc freezes for several minutes then its starts to install the game again for maybe 45 sec then it freezes again and it repeats this until the installation is done.

this started after i had upgraded from xp pro to win 7 and got a new psu and vid card
before the upgrade everything worked perfectly.

Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit
Motherboard: MSI K9N Neo V3
PSU: Corsair HX 750W


i may have done something wrong when installing the new psu as i had no idea what i was doing. :O
 
I don't think you can actually upgrade from XP to windows 7. You should have backed up any files you needed and did a fresh install. I doubt you installed the psu wrong, its fairly simple. Did you actually delete the existing install and then do a fresh install or what did you do?
 
Did you update all your drivers? Plus look in Device Manager and make sure the drives are not running in PIO mode.
 
Look in Device Manager under the controller its on. If you dont know click on the IDE/ATA/SATA/ATPI controllers to get the drop down. Right click on eack controller and click properites. Then click Advanced settings.

Yes, use vista drivers. So if you use W7 64 bit OS then use vista 64bit drivers, if w7 32bit OS use vista 32bit drivers.

yes im sure.
and this is the only problem im having everything else works fine. ive had this problem for about 3 months but ive been ignoring it.
 
Dont know. Is it just one CD/DVD drive? Maybe go to device manager. Click on the CD/DVD drive, right click on the drive and click uninstall. Reboot and let windows reinstall the driver and see if it helps.
 
that seems to have fixed it. i just installed call of duty 4 in a few min instead of a few hours.

Edit: nevermind i spoke too soon, i just tried installing a different game and its happening again.
