Hey, I've decided to hook up my computer to a Plasma TV which is a 58 inch plasma and i dont know what kind of resolution to use or how to set it up. Normally i use a 1400x900 res. on monitor but when i hook up to plasma an try to increase res, the higher i go, the colors get all crazy so i dont know what to do now.. If anyone could help, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks...!!!!:D

Also: I use an XFX Geforce 9800 GTX card

The graphics card can easily support 1080p.

When you say that the colors go crazy, does the screen turn pink-ish? All the colors shift and it looks like the wrong pallet is used? If so, you may have to change one of the following.

Either change:

- the plasma's color mode from YCbCr to RGB.

OR

- the video card's output from RGB to YCbCr. Open the nVidia control panel. Look under Video & Television>Select digital color format. You will see a drop-down menu displaying RGB. Click that then select YCbCr444.

Also, how new is your Plasma? Burn-in isn't a problem on most newer Plasmas (in the last few years), but it is possible. You still don't want to leave static items on the screen for too long (like the task bar).

The TV will have resolutions that are supported, and some that are not.

Look in your TV manual and it should tell you which resolutions you can,
or can't run it at.

That's true too. Though, most modern televisions will support/stretch all sorts of PC resolutions. It could also be a sync issue, too. I'm still thinking it's the color space. From the way it was described, the TV is probably expecting the YCbCr signal from the computer for that resolution.

What refresh rates are you seeing in your resolution options? You should only see 59/60Hz or possibly 24Hz as well.

Also, can you clarify whether or not the display looked right on the plasma t the 1400x900 resolution?

It was just a thought.

I just bought a 46" Sony LCD last month and it would not recognize the resolution I had my pc set at.

I had to plug in a CRT monitor along side and change the res until the TV
would display it. It said "Invalid Format".

I had a similar issue hooking up my PC with my 4850 to my LCD tv. If the resolution isn't supported by the TV, the colours would be extremely tinted purple/pinkish, and no amount of colour adjustment fixed it. The fix was to simply pick a supported resolution, such as 1920x1080 (1080p) or whatever the equivalent resolution of 1080i/720p is. (will usually be similar to XXXX by 720 for 720p, and so on)

Huh - that is strange. What resolution were you trying to run?

Also, what kind of connection are you guys using? DVI-HDMI? VGA? I should have asked this earlier. I have only connected to my television over DVI-HDMI and had not had an issue with resolution. Just about anything I throw at it from 640x480 on up works.
